Lockdown: Archives - Horsey Gap

Seals, those cute animals, a bit loud, a bit friendly. "The sea puppies". They seem to be always so happy and relaxed. And they definitely know how to pose for the camera.

I researched where I could meet these friendly creatures without having to travel too far. I succeeded at my third attempt to find them. First, I went to Brancaster Beach, but I didn't see any seals there. The second time I visited the Blakeney Point. I probably could have found them there if I had booked a boat trip (I didn't); and if I was comfortable taking pictures from a boat with that "telescope" that I wrote about in my last weeks post. Which I kind of wasn't...

I failed, twice. But I didn't want to give up. Back to the drawing board! I had researched the matter for a few hours, google really helped me out here, and the destination was set. Horsey Gap! Not sure how I convinced one of my friends to join me on this quest. Maybe he was bored that day. Bike trip!

Got to love a good bike trip: the bendy roads, the ever changing view, that full panorama that you just can't experience in a car... It's... Well, this isn't a motorcycle post. Sorry, back to the main story. I followed the GPS instructions (I'm lost without a GPS); and we arrived at the Horsey Gap car park. I parked, took the backpack, tripod, along with that animal of a lens and we set off towards the beach. Let's find those seals!

As soon as we reached the beach I felt disappointment. Where are the seals? Thankfully, a very friendly lady nearby heard my "crying". She pointed into a direction and said: "you will find a colony there, just laying on the beach". I thanked her kindly and started battling the sand following her directions.

Well, I love whining... I just do. Now imagine this: full motorcycle gear, a ten kilogram backpack filled up with photography goodies, a tripod, and that super-telephoto lens, motorcycle boots wading through sand! It wasn't a walk in the park if you know what I mean. And it was quite a long walk to get to the seal colony. However, I am very glad we made it. The end of whining, for now. :)

Pictures!

About two hundred pictures later, we decided to wrap it up and hit the road. Obviously, we had to walk back to the car park. Well... that took forever! Another sand battle, yeeey! We arrived at the car park, packed everything safely away. We were about to leave; but I wanted to take some pictures of my mate and his bike. He agreed so we just needed to find a good spot. The hunting began! I am not sure how long it took us, but we managed to find something. Not the best, not the worst, but it worked out alright. I am quite happy with the outcome.

Pictures!

Once the short session was completed the camera was carefully tucked away. And we left for home. I am going to return to Horsey Gap at some point in time. Waiting for better and warmer days.
